Whanake House

Bridging the gap for young adults with high-functioning disabilities.

About Us

We aim to fill the gap for young people with high-functioning disabilities who after leaving school, often become socially isolated and get lost within the system. We offer a goal-based transition to enter young adults into work experience, community placements, and/or tertiary education.

Support services for young adults with high-functioning disabilities.

Young adults with high-functioning impairments, disabilities, or neurodiversity are potentially not captured by other services. This means they often fall through the gaps after high school due to a lack of support. Some may not meet the threshold for existing services, yet they still need support to develop independence and socialise with their peers.

“I like going to Whanake House because I have made some lovely friends. They make me feel welcome. I enjoy learning in the courses offered, the monthly social evening, and going on bus trips. Whanake House makes me feel happy.”
